Mr. Ambassador:

Thank you for your letter of 1 September 2011. We are content that you will communicate our views to your government.

From what you write, we understand that you believe that when Hamas and Syria ’s dictator violate the Geneva Conventions, the Declaration of Human Rights, and UN Conventions, this makes it legitimate for Israel to do the same. We do not share this view, however.

When we, as dedicated activists and defenders of international law, address you and your government with our concerns, it is an expression of our understanding that as a democracy your government is capable of meeting political challenges through the use of means that comply with international law. It is our hope that your government will act on the basis of a higher morality than Hamas and the Syrian regime.

We ask you to make these views also known to your government.
